How we work

Zambesi Health is passionately committed to promoting the health of people, animals and the environment in rural areas of southern Africa. We are committed to preventing the transmission of diseases from animals to humans and to maintaining a healthy animal population in an intact environment.
Our mission and vision

Mission

By providing holistic and integrative healthcare, we are creating a secure future for everyone. With innovative approaches, partnerships and capacity building, we promote cooperation between the fields of human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental protection.

Together we are creating a sustainable and harmonious livelihood for communities in rural areas of southern Africa.

Vision

Zambesi Health’s vision is to help disadvantaged people in remote rural regions of Zambia to lead a self-determined life through knowledge transfer and capacity building.

We dream of a future in which small farmers in Zambia can create a sufficient livelihood for themselves and their families through modern and sustainable farming methods – in harmony with people, animals and nature in accordance with the One Health principle. Where they get fair prices for their products and thus escape poverty.

Our innovative agricultural training centers and model farms address local needs and impart tailor-made knowledge from the bottomup to give women and men the expertise they need to achieve economic independence. We empower them to take their destiny into their own hands.

Together with our local partners, we want to drive positive change in rural Africa. Our aim is for the people in our project regions to be able to look to the future with strength and in harmony with their natural environment.

Southern Zambia – potential and challenges

Despite relative political stability, the people of southern Zambia face a variety of problems: Poverty, disease, inadequate education and healthcare characterize large parts of the region. Some of the people here still live a very traditional life and lack many things that we take for granted.

What approaches can help here? Find out more about the background, correlations and possible solutions.

Political situation:

The political situation in southern Zambia is relatively stable. The country is led by a democratically elected government that is committed to economic development and social justice. Unfortunately, many measures do not reach everyone. However, there is also criticism of the government in terms of transparency and the fight against corruption.

Poverty:

Poverty is a major problem in southern Zambia. Many people live below the poverty line and have limited access to basic resources such as clean water, adequate nutrition and appropriate healthcare. Rural communities in particular are affected by poverty.

People’s way of life:

The people of southern Zambia live mainly from agriculture. Traditional practices and cultural customs play an important role in daily life. Family ties are strong and community values are highly valued. However, there are also challenges related to social inequalities, particularly in terms of gender and access to resources and education.

We want to make a sustainable contribution to development in Zambia through the exchange of knowledge, innovative approaches and cooperation on an equal footing.

Our aim is to help smallholder farmers lead a self-determined life in line with this One Health principle. To achieve this goal, we work closely with local people.

We want to prevent the transmission of diseases from animals to humans and ensure a healthy animal population in an intact environment.

By harmonizing the well-being of humans, animals and nature, we are creating a secure future for all. Together with local partners, we are committed to this positive change and are thus making a sustainable contribution to development in rural Africa.
